DescriptionFrancisco Zúñiga was a Mexican painter, sculptor, draftsman, printmaker, teacher, and cofounder of La Esmeralda, the National School of Painting and Sculpture in Mexico City, where he taught from 1938 to 1970. Beginning in 1972, Zúñiga began to produce lithographs, creating prints of various human figures that echo the expressive and sensual nature of his forceful sculpture. In many of his figurative works, such as Hombres con barca I, Zúñiga explores the techniques of figural representation in Western art, alluding to the compositions of classical Western works.
