DescriptionRobert E. Wood came on the painting scene later than many of the other painters in the Ann Cullen Collection. As a result, his paintings are more tempered by Surrealism and other Modern movements of the 20th Century. His works tended to strike a good balance between being representational and including abstracted elements. Caprice I is perhaps one of the most abstracted works he created. Disjointed and connected elements appear to all be stitched together in a complex and alienating patchwork. Even the title, Caprice, reflects the disharmony of the subject matter, as it is defined as an inexplicable and sudden change in mood.On View
