DescriptionAlberta McCloskey made this large-scale painting in Los Angeles shortly before she and her husband moved to New York. It was widely exhibited in important exhibitions in New York, Boston, and Paris, and was a centerpiece of the McCloskey's studio collection. The McCloskeys moved from city to city, always following the same formula for success: they set up a grand studio-salon filled with their best paintings, rich furnishings, and decorative objects, then invited the public, press, and art community to advertised weekly open houses. Alberta’s first still lifes were of flowers.
