DescriptionMillard Sheets attended the Chouinard Art Institute while studying with F. Tolles Chamberlin and Clarence Hinkle. As a teenager his watercolors were accepted for exhibition in the annual California Water Color Society shows and at nineteen he was an official member of the society. Also he worked with oils and acrylics, Sheets was best known for his watercolor landscapes as shown in Early Morning Mood. Millard Sheets’ depictions of natural environments can be found in this painting featuring his specialty in Surrealist imagery. Sheets developed an interest in strong, varied color that developed from his study of Georges Braque, and rich color soon became a hallmark of his work.On View
