DescriptionEmil Kosa Jr. began taking art classes at a young age and he decided to pursue art as a profession in his late teens. Kosa was a mural artist and produced decorative art for churches and auditoriums while taking on portrait commissions. In the 1930s, with encouragement from Millard Sheets, Kosa began to pursue national reputation as a California watercolor artist. Although, he is best known for his representational watercolors and oils such as his painting, Nothing to Do, he also worked with pastels and pencil drawings depicting figurative subjects. Another unique aspect of Kosa’s work is that he did not consistently have a singular style, and instead had explored many different styles throughout his career. This watercolor painting from Emil Kosa Jr. reflects a naturalistic style. Each element in the painting is distinguishable while being comprised of different strokes and dots. The scene is depicted as a sunny day filled with color and a warm pallet of colors suggesting a feeling of ease and joy.On View
