DescriptionMillard Sheets attended the Chouinard Art Institute while studying with F. Tolles Chamberlin and Clarence Hinkle. As a teenager his watercolors were accepted for exhibition in the annual California Water Color Society shows and at nineteen he was an official member of the society. Also he worked with oils and acrylics, Sheets was best known for his watercolor landscapes. Millard Sheets’ depictions of natural environments can be found in this painting featuring his specialty in Surrealist imagery. The 1950s brought a change to his style which incorporated brighter colors and showing subjects from worldwide travels as can be seen in his 1979 painting, Blue Canoe Against the Reef.On View
