DescriptionMillard Sheets attended the Chouinard Art Institute while studying with F. Tolles Chamberlin and Clarence Hinkle. As a teenager his watercolors were accepted for exhibition in the annual California Water Color Society shows and at nineteen he was an official member of the society. Also he worked with oils and acrylics, Sheets was best known for his watercolor landscapes which is demonstrated in his painting Old Colonial Bridge. Through World War II, many of Millard Sheets’ works were reflecting on the time showing famine, poverty, and overall darkness. The 1950s brought a change to his style as seen in this painting which incorporated brighter colors and showing subjects from worldwide travels. On View
