DescriptionArmin Hansen, an early twentieth-century Northern California painter of sea themes, lived much of his life in Monterey, California. Hansen most frequently dealt with the relationship between human beings and the sea, whereas other Monterey/Carmel marine painters primarily specialized in themes of waves on rocks. He was never without subject matter, for Monterey was an important fishing port whose sailors faced a continual battle against the elements to pursue their livelihood.
