DescriptionThis Western Apache storage basket has a 3-rod foundation of willow with stitches of split cottonwood and devil's claw for decoration. Figures of animals were favorite motifs of the western Apache. Usually the symbols and figure chosen for designs were for decorative purposes only, having no symbolic meaning. A jar of this size was probably made for sale being too small for storage of grain or food.On View
