DescriptionBasket - jar-shaped, used as granary. Coiled; foundation of shredded or split cat-tail and the sewing in splints of willow. The decoration, worked out in martynia, is in three sections, the lower and upper border representing water: the central, human figures. Height 29" diam of mouth 13" Made by Papago Indians, Southern Arizona.Card 2 PAPAGO; LARGE JAR-SHAPED STORAGE BASKET Ex Label: This basket has a bear grass foundation covered with yucca and devil's claw stitches. The central design is an encircling band of men and women holding hands. Meandering lines and other geometric motifs complete the decoration. 21" diameter, 15" high.
