DescriptionAppliqued insignia quilt; white background with designs in beige and red; also black, in shapes of spades, anchors crossed swords, stars, etc. with embroidered numbers and letters underneath each form such as first line which reads; 11th, 16th,14th, 3rd and 20th.This is a family name on the donor's mother's side of the family and donor states her great-grandfather was in Spanish American War. On right side in red is embroidered 1/1/1898.
Donor states this quilt was in the 1903 Wabash river Flood for about two weeks around Peru, Indiana. According to a letter from the donor's mother Mrs. Cora Nash, these are the Grand Army of the Republic insiginia of the regiments in camp at Peru, Indiana. Her grandfather was a G. A. R. soldier and letter writers quilted it for him; Mrs. Sara Almeda (Roe) Personett.
