DescriptionThis costume is a man's full lengh semi-formal court robe. It is made out of blue silk gauze with hand embroidered designs. The designs include a five-toed dragon embroidered in gold couched thread. A wave and mountain design is located at the hemline. This style is considered to be a summer robe. The robe was collected in China by Mrs. Ellis Hills Rogers from Searsport Maine. Mrs. Rogers was born on July 14, 1863 and married in Yokohoma, Japan between 1880-1883. She lived in Japan and China for a number of years. A grandmother of the donor, Mrs. Rodgers died in November 1946 in Pasadena.
