DescriptionCoburn was one of few regional artists who consistently made paintings of urban themes. Throughout the 1920s, the artistic community largely created pure landscapes with little sign of the burgeoning encroachments on the land—unless they were of tourist sites. Artists painted locations that had the flavor of "Old California" such as the missions or places like Olvera Street, a tree-lined marketplace with restaurants, shops, and musicians that roughly marks the location of the first Mexican settlement in Los Angeles in 1781.On View
