DescriptionAccounting ledgers of Attorney George H. Gobar, whose office was located at 361 W Commonwealth Avenue in Fullerton, California. Related to a safe in this donation (83.10.1), these 25 sheets of accounting ledgers were found in the safe when it was donated to the Bowers. These records paint a picture of Gobar's business in early 20th century Fullerton. From them, we can determine that the original owner of the safe, Dr. Mark Menges, DDS, was a client of Gobar's, and that Gobar also did legal work for the dissolution of Menges' estate. It is likely through this process that the safe passed from one man to another. The ledgers span the time period between 1926-1951. The following is a list of the account names and dates recorded: Stein-Strauss Co. Inc., May 1926 - March 1933; Elvin A. Ames, January 1929 - September 1932; Virginia-Carolina Chemical Co., June 1926 - February 1940; William A. Hansen, Minister, September - November 1930; Otis Cooper, March 1938; Mr. & Mrs. A.S. Redfern, November 1937 - January 1951; Dr. Mark M. Menges DDS, Dentist, December 1930 - January 1940; Mark M. Menges Estate, January 1940 - September 1942; and D.C. Barnum & F.A. Treadwell, September 1927 - February 1928. Also included were Gobar's office expenses from March 1934 - May 1937 and the payroll records for Gobar's stenographer Edith M. Robinson from July 1927 - October 1943. Other notable names found include: William French, J.M. Backs, and Muckenthaler.
