DescriptionRitschel settled in the Carmel/Monterey area and specialized in painting shore views. Ritschel may be best known for his sea views where moonlight shimmers accross a churning surface creating an almost spiritual effect. "Midsummer Night" is a small version of this type. However, Ritschel executed a great variety of subjects including fisherfolk, workers active on the sands and in the surf, ships on open ocean, views of Tahiti, and "landscapes" of the shoreline.
