DescriptionHuang Fu-shou’s jade carvings benefit from the 5,000-year history of the artform in China. Structured after the organic movements of calligraphy, his plant and animal subjects seemingly defy the static nature of their stone medium.

Though his background and lifestyle are vastly different from that of the gentleman-scholar, his artwork looks at many of the themes once explored by Chinese literati.
