DescriptionThis is a calligraphy ink on paper painting by Taiwanese artist Su Hsin Ho. The artist graduated from National Taiwan University Arts, the fine art department of Western Painting. With the literary name of Wen Shan, he proclaimed himself as the owner of "Cottage of Wen Shan (Culture Mountain)." Beginning in 1971, Su Hsin Ho won the championship of the National College Calligraphy Competition for three consecutive years. His philosophy of calligraphy emphasizes the wakening of life through strokes, inks, and time. He breaks through the structure of rows and columns of traditional calligraphy as well as the framed spaces of the characters. In this way, he is expressing his thoughts and ideas, connotation, and prospects with abstract words, giving calligraphy a creative and modem meaning. The calligraphy is a poem roughly translating to “White dew closed the moon; breeze scattered the sunset.”On View
