DescriptionWhile the textiles of the Miao in Southwest China are appreciated for their exuberant, decorative qualities, certain articles of clothing are relatively unadorned except for attached embroidery panels on the collar, sleeves and hem. This is likely a woman’s robe which is either worn as a working robe or worn under silver adornment. The collar of this object appears to have originally come from a Miao representation of the Yangtze River, the groups historic homeland. Small pieces such as this were often reused in Miao textiles.On View
