DescriptionThe textiles of the Miao in Southwest China are appreciated for their exuberant, decorative qualities. The bright colors used in this hat suggest synthetically dyed thread was used, meaning that the embroidery was created relatively recently. The use of other synthetic materials such as sequins supports this assumption. The design of the embroidery is not traditionally Miao and illustrates the influence of the Han culture on the designer.On View
