DescriptionLeo Matiz was a Colombian painter, caricaturist, and photographer who documented the native people of Latin America, rural and urban scenery, organic and architectural forms, and well-known artists and political individuals of the twentieth century, as his photographic print of Frida Kahlo illustrates. Following his arrival in Mexico in 1940, Matiz was heavily influenced by cinematic culture, muralism, and Mexican traditions and began to photograph artists, creating psychological and intimate portraits of Frida Kahlo and many others. On View
