DescriptionBasket - bowl, twined; warp and weft on bottom, soft rush (probably hazel). Weft on body, stems of squaw grass. Beautiful old gold color produced by age. Ornamentation, steps and triangles in bark of root of red bud. Made by Hat Creek Indians. (Shasta Tribe) living on branch of Pit River, northeastern California. Border formed by braiding down the unused warp stems.Card 2 KLAMATH-MODOC; BOWL SHAPED BASKET 9" diameter, 3.5" high. This basket, constructed in typical Klamath-Modoc weaving technique of plain, 2 element Z-twining on twisted warps with overlay and wrapped twining, has been decorated with brown triangle and step-line pattern.
