Manufactured In the United States by a company called Griffen, Smith and Hill (GSH) in Phoenixville, PA, pieces with this design were given as a premium by a large tea company around 1880. The father or donor, Dr. V. Ray Townsend, M.D. of Long Beach was one of a group of individuals who purchased the "Arden" home and grounds of Madame Modjeska when she sold it in 1906, prior to her move to Newport Beach.
