DescriptionThis black and white photograph from around 1902 depicts the interior of a home built by Madame Modjeska, or Madame Helena Modjeska, one of Poland’s most famous stage actresses. She was already a prominent socialite in the early 1870s and threw lavish salons in her Warsaw home every Tuesday. The thespian knew several important Polish painters, including Jozef Chelmonski, with whom she was close friends. On View
