DescriptionThis is a watercolor painting from around 1925 by the artist Marion Kavanagh, who married painter Elmer Wachtel in the early years of the 20th century. The two artists spent the next 25 years traveling around California in their specially modified car, making sketches of the countryside that they would later make into finished paintings in their Mount Washington studio. Marion worked primarily in watercolor while Elmer worked in oil. Marion's general composition was like Elmer's in that she created a foreground screen of shadowy elements through which a lightened background can be seen. This painting is considered especially desirable because it contains flowers.On View
