DescriptionThis brochure depicts Casa de Estudillo, a historic adobe house in Old Town San Diego, and calls the building "Ramona's Marriage Place," a reference to the wildly popular 1884 novel "Ramona" by Helen Hunt Jackson. While the locations and historical events of the novel are based in reality, the story and its main character Ramona are entirely fictional.

Nevertheless, when Casa de Estudillo was hailed as "Ramona's Marriage Place" in 1887 by the San Diego Union (based on its physical similarities to the location described in the novel), tourists came out in droves to experience the romanticized setting. Various owners capitalized on the tourist attraction for decades until it was sold to the State of California in 1968 and its association with the original Estudillo Family was restored.
