DescriptionThis book was published on the occasion of both the Panama-Pacific Exposition and the Panama-California Exposition. The book contains information about Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Ventura counties. These expositions were held in 1915 in order to commemorate the completion of the Panama Canal. The location of the exposition was a contentious and political issue and for many years. Representatives from both locations waged political and social battles in order to secure the exposition in each of their respective cities. The end result was to have two fairs, one in San Diego and one in San Francisco. The San Diego exposition was held in Balboa Park while the San Francisco exposition was held in the Presidio area as well as in portions of the Marina district. There was a dedicated Southern California building on the grounds of the San Diego Panama-California exposition. The Southern California Panama Expositions Commission was in charge of this building and of distributing this publication. Its purpose was to inform and attract potential investors, tourists and residents about all that Southern California had to offer.
