DescriptionThis photograph by Edward W. Cochems depicts the entry to Hewes Park, a landmark created by citrus grower David Hewes and designed by Robert G. Fraser. Located on Hewes' ranch lands in El Modena, the park was privately owned but available for public use and featured activities such as a miniature golf course and a Japanese tea garden in addition to its gardens and grounds. It was developed around 1905 and remained a local favorite until the 1940s when the land was purchased and developed into homes.
