DescriptionThis sober presentation of a teenage girl in a white sailor blouse looking towards the viewer shows that, in his later work, McCloskey used the same lighting and compositional scheme found in his earlier society portraits. While it doesn't reveal much, the rather probing, close-up view of the reserved teenager causes the viewer to ponder who she is and what she is thinking. The portrait seems to herald the waning of youth and the cusp of womanhood. On View
