DescriptionThis painting by May E. Schaetzel was exhibited in Paris shortly after its creation in 1928, and later at the 8th Annual Southern California Art Exhibition at the Fine Arts Gallery of San Diego in 1934. Schaetzel is not well known by today's collectors of California art, possibly because the middle of her career was spent in Paris, New York, and Washington, D.C. Although she returned to Los Angeles in her later years, she does not seem to have succumbed to turning out landscapes that might have caught the eye of local collectors. Rather her work is more sophisticated and international, as is seen in "Lost in the Woods", which has an Art Deco twist. On View
