DescriptionOil on canvas depicting Mission Santa Barbara. The artist, Fannie Eliza Duvall, moved to Los Angeles in 1888, becoming one of the first accomplished resident artists. She traveled extensively, was an active member of the art community, and helped found the first public exhibition space at the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce. Duvall was living in Paris and studying with James McNeill Whistler when World War I began. She was unable to return to the United States, and therefore spent the rest of her life in Europe. On View
