DescriptionPhotograph of Tom Morris, sprinter, world famous during the 1890's. During the Chicago World's Fair 1893, he exceeded all previous records. Lived for many years in Santa Ana, disappearing suddenly and remaining unheard from for about 25 years. Appeared unheralded at Elsinore, where he remained for about three years, when he was killed by an automobile in 1940.(It is generally believed thet the years of absence were spent in incarceration)
At one time the Mother of Tom Morris lived in "Morris Canyon" one of the many canyons surrounding San Juan Hot Springs. here was established a small Post Office known as "Tulaga" (pocket) which served both San Juan Hot Springs and the Canyon. Mrs Morris was appointed Postmaster and served during the life of the office (about 2 yrs.)
