DescriptionThis object is a male tomb figure made during the Han dynasty (206 BCE - 220 CE). An army of nearly 2,000 similar clay figurines, male and female, have been found in the mausoleum of Emperor Jing (r. 157-141 BCE) near Xi'an. Surviving traces of silk clothing and wooden armor indicate that these anatomically accurate sculptures were once clothed.
