DescriptionTsuchiya Koitsu is especially famous for his use of dramatic light effects that give better perspective and vividness to his prints unlike most others before him, as well as the influence of Western perspective and styles. The reason for the fire on the boats is because this was a common strategy by fishermen to attract fish at night in order to catch them more easily. Dating this print accurately is difficult since it was printed continuously from its first carving in 1935 until the 2000s. However, since the print was aquired in 1998, it was likely printed in the mid to late 20th Century. On View
