DescriptionFrom a young age, Mildred Bryant Brooks strived to be an etcher. When Brooks was in her late twenties she was able to finally study the medium with artist Arthur Miller. Due to lack of supplies during the Second World War, however, Brooks turned to teaching. She excelled as an etcher for over thirty years; however, her eyesight failed in the early 1960s. Brooks produced many etchings of trees and of California landscapes during her time until the 1960s which is when she lost her eyesight. With the usage of shadowing, light can be seen shining through the trees and onto the grassy ground. She has also been called the best sketcher of trees in California. On View
