DescriptionThis hat from China is probably from the Miao or other similar minority culture. This round-rimmed brown hat has small, green floral designs at its top as well as along the base of the crown. A number of colorful beads dangle from the underside of hat along with two leather straps for attaching the hat to one’s head. Most woven Miao hats feature a hexagonal weaving pattern. This object sets itself apart by being woven in a coiled pattern. Despite having a nearly identical hat in our collections, during research no other Miao hats were found with such distinct crowns.
