DescriptionThis object is one of two large cloisonné crane figures. Decorative items such as this were very popular in imperial halls and temples because of their highly detailed appearance and form. Additionally, cranes were considered auspicious symbols that represented long life and harmony, particularly in an imperial context. Cranes are noted to have been especially popular during the reign of the Qianlong Emperor (1736-1796). This timeframe is considered to be the peak of cloisonné production.
