DescriptionThis food pounder is from the Schouten Islands, just north of the Sepik Delta of New Guinea. The round base is unique to the region, as other food pounders from the Sepik Coastal region are typically made with long and slender pestles. It has a handle carved in the fashion of an ancestral figure wearing a conical headpiece.
