DescriptionThis carved wooden bowl was used for serving sago pudding or kava, sometimes during ceremonies and feasts. While its design originates from the Schouten Islands just north of the Sepik Delta in Papua New Guinea, it was collected farther southeast in the Huon Gulf region. Bowls such as this one were commonly traded as commodities and sometimes used in bride wealth, therefore it would not be uncommon to find one so far from its place of origin.On View
