Description1882 Crazy Quilt. Variety of fabrics and decorative stitching used. Center design of stitched peacock set amongst Japanese flowers and characters.History per Elizabeth Jentzer Cohen in email to JPL on 7/13/2012: The quilt was made in Iasi (could be Yassi), Romania and intended as a carriage cover for their new baby sister or brother. When they left for the USA to start a new life the carriage cover was already finished, as you see it. My Grandmother was born shipboard in the Ellis Island Harbor on December 25, 1882 and was the first American citizen in the family for 10. It was never made into the actual cover as I think the transition to the new life was about all they could handle and it was given to Emma as a small girl where she kept it in her bottom bureau drawer until I was about 14 years old. She gave it to me in save keeping as her only Grandaughter.
