DescriptionWucai, or "five colors," is a process in which a piece is first fired with an outline of the design in cobalt blue with an overlay of a clear glaze; colored glazes are then added over the clear glaze and the piece is again fired at a lower temperature. The commemorative inscription reads:“Lord Zhu Yangxi whose sobriquet is Pingye... is the fourth son of Zhu Zhi. He was born on the third day of the seventh month of the jiyou year of Jiajing (July 26, 1549). On an auspicious day he married a woman Née Chen from the same ward. They have three sons: the eldest Jianger, the second He’er, and the third Haier. May the sons and grandsons be numerous, and for a myriad of generations be prosperous and flourish. Made in the summer of the ding year of Wanli (1577).”
