DescriptionThis object is a Maya funerary vessel from Peten, Guatemala. It dates to the Classic Period, approximately 300-950 CE. The large vessel is cylindrical with a flat bottom and three hollow legs, each containing a small ball of hard clay which create a rattle effect when the vessel is moved. Two painted rectangular panels on the side depict a lord seated on a throne gesturing to a seated person before him. The entire vessel is painted in blue, red, and white pigments.
