DescriptionThere are hundreds of individual katsina spirits as well as many variations at the different Hopi villages. The physical attributes of the katsinas have also changed over time and individual carvers have added their own particular stylistic interpretations. Some carvers consciously change or omit certain details when they make the figures for sale. Thus, precise identification of the carvings can sometimes be difficult for non-Hopi individuals. These are excellent examples of katsina carvings although their exact representation is uncertain.
