DescriptionThis Chinese landscape watercolor painting is titled "Cloud Sea of Huangshan Mountain" by Wellington Lei (Jingbo Lei). The landscape features mountains and clouds with a dwelling and figure sitting atop one of the mountain ridges. Huangshan, literally meaning the "Yellow Mountain(s)," is a mountain range in southern Anhui province in eastern China. The area is well known for its natural beauty, including its granite peaks, Huangshan pine trees, and views of the rolling clouds. Huangshan is a frequent subject of traditional Chinese paintings and literature, as well as modern photography. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of China's major tourist destinations.
Inscription in Chinese and red signature seal at left. Though the title listed above was assigned by the artist when donated to Bowers, the original characters, 亭轩观瀑, translate to "Watching the Waterfall from the Pavilion."
