DescriptionBeginning in the 1910s, McCloskey made a series of portraits that are memorable documents of the denizens of urban Los Angeles. McCloskey apparently made paintings of interesting characters he met, hiring them to pose for him and sometimes adorning them in the trappings of society. This may be the case with an untitled portrait of a goateed, greying older man, wearing a tuxedo and white bow tie, who the artist met at the veterans hospital. On View
