DescriptionMasterfully carved by hand to exact proportions, the use of this stone bowl, or mortar, is unknown. It has been suggested that it was used for grinding and preparing large amounts of food or for ceremonial purposes. The bowl was found in Santa Ana in 1903 at the corner of Third and Ross St. by an employee of the city water department. It was deposited about 20 inches below the surface.
