DescriptionPolychrome cylindrical vase, early Classic Maya. The design is in pink, red, brown, and white on a cream colored ground and consists of three standing zoomorphic figures. Each wears a headress with streamers (or feathers?). The headress is attached to the back of the head. Each has a tail and wears a red scarf around the neck. Two of the figures' bodies are predominantly brown while the third is predominantely pink (some traces of brown). The red scarf is sometimes indicative of ritual sacrificial scenes. Whether these figures represent animal deities in ritual garb or priests in animal disguise is not clearly indicated. Red framing bands at base and along rim.On View
