DescriptionThis ceremonial jacket, possibly a wedding jacket, was made by the Miao of Guizhou, China. It is made of cotton and wax-resist dyed in indigo with a technique known as batik. This means that the design on the jacket was hand-drawn in hot wax before the cloth was dyed. After the pigment has settled, the fabric is boiled to remove the wax.On View
