DescriptionFestival Jacket; Miao culture, Bao Jing subgroup, China; 20th century. Background is made out of heavy black cotton with embroidered figures, animals and scenes. Embroidery is primarily gold with red and turquoise green accents. Front proper right panel, lower half is blank and is not covered in embroidery. Front of jacket is open. Circular eyes on figures are distinctive. Some distinctive scenes which are depicted include the following: a anthropomorphic figure holding a bow and arrow while sitting on a flying bird; birds and small figures of people holding hands around the collar; old man slouched over holding a walking cane and a bird cane with a bird inside (on proper right shoulder).On View
