DescriptionWoven Armlets are common every day adornments. While such armlets are worn throughout Papua New Guinea and other parts of Oceania, this piece most closely resembles the chunky armlets favored by men from the New Guinea Highlands. Such bands are woven into an interlocking “V” pattern with a single piece of durable fiber. A pair is usually worn, with one resting at each bicep. While women also wear armbands, these chunky examples are known to be strictly worn by men. They are quite commonly worn as they are relatively easy to make as compared with shell armlets. Leaf fronds are sometimes stuck beneath the bands to create a more festive appearance. On View
