DescriptionBalance from Miao ethnic minority culture, China. This object dates back to the 20th century. This balance consists of two sticks, one longer and the other shorter, attached to each other by red twine. The longer stick has brown wicker wrapped around a portion of the upper middle area. There is a carved design above the wicker. The very top of the longer stick is carved down making it narrower compared to the rest. On the smaller stick, there is metal at the very bottom. Along the shaft, there are white dots. Towards the top there are two gold-colored buckle-like objects made out of metal (possibly brass). There is a brass hook attached to the metal object at the very top.On View
